Where to Watch Movie

Some of Whitney's biggest performances came in the early 90s in the wake of The Bodyguard's release, which saw her touring the globe and pulling off some huge shows closer to home.

An epic performance of The Star-Spangled Banner at the 1991 NFL Super Bowl quickly went down in history, with the audio recording soon going platinum.

In 1994, she also became the first major artist to perform in post-apartheid South Africa, singing in honour of then-president Nelson Mandela in November that year.

Her stellar live shows are replicated in the film, too, with plenty of extras to helping to mimic real audiences.

"We had a huge amount of crowd there who, bless them, were so supportive and watched me do these performances, I don't know, 20 times, 25 times in a day," Ackie said.

Don't you wanna dance?

For all her personal challenges, Whitney's discography stands as a powerful and critically acclaimed collection of hits, ballads and dancefloor anthems that still resonate to this day.

She was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020. Each of her studio albums has been certified diamond, platinum or multi-platinum.

And, in late 2020, I Will Always Love You surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube, making her the first solo artist from the 20th century to reach that milestone.

Ten years after her death, many musicians still cite her as a major influence on their music, including Beyonce, Adele, and Lady Gaga.

"Maybe [the viewers will] go back to her music if they haven't for a second, or look more into her life. Her catalogue of art was absolutely incredible," Ackie said.

"It's really timeless."
